Cottage meals during a winter holiday in Saariselkä work best when you split the week into two parts: you prepare breakfasts and light snacks yourself, and order a ready-made dinner for everyone from us. That way, shopping trips and kitchen duties are kept to a minimum, leaving your group free to go skiing, snowboarding or simply take in the fell scenery. Below is a suggested meal plan and tips on when it’s worth including a catering service.
Winter holiday meals at the cottage in Saariselkä begin with a flexible breakfast
Mornings at the holiday cottage rarely start at the same time for everyone. One person is the first to head out onto the ski trails, another sleeps in, and the children want porridge as soon as they wake up. That’s why breakfast should consist of food that everyone can help themselves to at their own pace: porridge, bread, cheese, eggs and fresh juice. Make a shopping list before you set off. If you’d rather not carry shopping bags, we can deliver your food and drink purchases to the cottage.
If you’re celebrating a birthday or another special occasion whilst travelling, breakfast can be the highlight of the day. In that case our catering service We’ll organise the breakfast service, and you’ll have time to set the table and gather your group together. Please let us know how many adults and children are in your group, so that we can agree on the menu and delivery arrangements when you place your order. The rest of the mornings can be relaxed.
Make your own breakfast, order ready-made dinners and spend your holidays in the fells.
Dinner’s ready: when catering makes your day off easier
Dinner is a time for everyone to get together, but preparing it is no picnic for anyone. When the group returns from a ski tour or the slopes, nobody has the energy to start cooking a multi-course meal. Catering makes things much easier, particularly on the day of arrival, after a long day out, and on the final evening, when the kitchen still needs tidying up. We deliver the food to the holiday home and, if required, set the table too, so all you have to do is sit down and eat.
Our food selection is inspired by Lapland’s culinary culture. Examples include reindeer stew, smoked salmon, Lapland flatbread, wild mushroom salad and Lapland cheese soup. We’ll tailor the menu to your preferences. Groups often have a variety of dietary preferences, and it’s easiest to let us know these straight away when booking. A meal plan for cottage meals during the winter holidays: home-cooked, takeaway and restaurant meals
The weekly meal plan consists of three parts. You’ll prepare breakfasts and light lunches at the cottage. On a few evenings, you’ll order ready-made meals. You can spend one evening at a restaurant: Pirkon Pirtti is an à la carte restaurant in Saariselkä, and we’re open daily from 3 pm to 9 pm. For larger groups, Piilopirtti’s Lapland-style buffet is ideal. On Christmas Eve, we organise a dinner. Make a plan before your trip so that your meal arrangements are sorted from the very first day.
Ordering is easy. Just let us know which days you need catering, how many people are in your party and what your requirements are. Give us a call or leave a contact request, and we’ll sort out the menu and delivery details. The sooner you let us know your group’s schedule, the easier it is for us to plan the delivery.
